I love the pictures but don’t like the transition from one page to the next. Why can’t it just be a smooth change when you click the “next” button?

Brinsley de Courcey Nixon built the house as holiday home. He was the founder of London & Provincial Bank and in 1870 a financial backer of John Hughes the Welsh industrialist who founded the city of Hughesovka (now Donetsk) in the Ukraine and modernised Russia’s iron and steel industry. Nixon’s youngest son Brinsley spent time in Hughesovka where he met and later married Elizabeth the niece of John Hughes.

At 3pm on Sunday 8th August Bideford will be having it’s own Tall Ship Race with a difference! Torridge and Appledore Pilot Gig clubs will re-enact the original use of their boats 110 years ago-and race out to the incoming Kathleen & May (sailing home from a long summer at sea). The first gig to put a ship’s Pilot aboard Bideford’s own 100ft topsail schooner wins the prize.
