Moreton Avenue Neighbourhood Watch

Moreton Avenue Neighbourhood Watch is preparing to celebrate its 10th Anniversary this summer. Annually, besides the more serious activities, well-attended social events have been held, when the residents have an opportunity to meet together. Getting to know our neighbours and good communication is the basis of an active Neighbourhood Watch.

BBQs and Shared Suppers have been enjoyed- surely some of Bideford’s best cooks live in Moreton Avenue- with games and competitions, a raffle and a plant stall. Recently we have been entertained with live music by Matt Squire on his keyboard and now Bideford Town Band is making a popular return visit this year. During the winter a general knowledge quiz is held in a local hotel. Local Solicitors and Estate Agents, Seldon, Ward and Nuttall, not only sponsor our stationery and printing, but have also presented a perpetual quiz trophy.

We enjoy excellent support from the Police, especially from our Community Safety Constable, PC Neil Walkey, who is always willing to listen, advise and deal with our concerns. Telephoned information received via the ‘Police Community Messaging Service’ is printed and delivered to the 45 households by our volunteers. We have purchased security items such as random light fittings and distributed free UV marker pens to residents.

Newsletters are produced and up-to-date Police literature is distributed.

This is just a snapshot of Moreton Avenue’s Neighbourhood Watch. Each Watch is free to operate to suit their local needs. Is your area covered by an active Neighbourhood Watch? It is very worthwhile and certainly creates a safer and friendlier community.
