13/12 at 0700 the bulk carrier Mitose, 77,376 tons d.w., was reporting off the Cornish Coast that she was proceeding to Appledore, which is impossible; at 14.30 she arrived in Bideford Bay. She sailed on the 14th, but returned in the early hours of the 15th via the Northern Point of Lundy Island She eventually sailed am 17th for Rotterdam. Various suggestions were made that she had engine problems, but this was never confirmed.
