Appledore.

It was drawn to my attention on Monday 1st October that the Richmond Drydock at Appledore had been sold, and the new owner Keith Wheatcroft of the Donington Racing Circuit was going to use it to store his collection of wartime vessels. Having seen some photograghs of the dock’s state, with overgrown greenery and remains of some of the fishing vessels left in the dock from the previous owner of the yard, a lot of hard work is needed to restore it to its original condition. I’ll keep you advised on the work in progress.

No news from Harland and Wolff regarding orders for the shipyard.

The main activity in the Bristol Channel 24/25/26 October was regarding the 11 containers which were washed overboard from a vessel off Lands End. One was washed ashore at Bucks Mills near Clovelly, another near Lynton. Another came ashore on the Welsh Coast while the others are thought to have sunk . They had to be found because of the danger to vessels in the narrow waters of the Bristol Channel, and also shipping movements in the Bristol Channel could be impaired.

Sorry for the short report but weather conditions have not been fruitful for ship spotting.

Regards,

Norman.
