Shipping notes No. 168 (March).

Bideford Quay.

No shipping since last issue.

Yelland Quay.

No shipping since last issue.

The yard officially closed on Friday 15th March.

During the morning of 16th March the BBC advised that a consortium was putting together plan of action to use the yard to build fishing vessels, and that there should be an announcement with 6 to 8 weeks. Again on the Radio Devon News on the 20th “interest has been shown throughout the world”, and the agents for the leaseholder Langham Industries are hopeful of puttting a deal together as a complete unit, as the leaseholder bought a considerable amount of equipment from Babcocks. It will either be for shipbuilding or ship repairs Let us hope and pray that something comes of the venture. In the Gazette, publishing on Wednesday 27th an article on the possiblity of bringing the Scottish built sailing vessel ‘Falls of Clyde’ back to the UK from her present home in Hawaii – I understand from various report I have read in magazines she requires a lot of work to be done on her. Will keep you updated.
